About Teresa 

My Background:

• My pronouns are she/her/hers.
• I’m from Northeastern Kentucky.
• I earned a BA in Strategic Communications from Morehead State University and a MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from University of the Cumberlands.
• I have been married and divorced, started a career later in life, learned boundaries, and overcame self-esteem/body image issues. I have grown from this and continue to learn something new about myself.
• Specialties: Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, General Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders in Adults.

My Approach:

• I love being a therapist. Watching someone get so excited about their life changing or watching the light come on in someone’s eyes after they’ve only known darkness for so long is incredibly rewarding. It’s not anything that I did, it’s all them and it’s amazing.
• I will never pretend to be someone that I’m not. I won’t pretend like I have all the answers to everything that a client wants to know because I know that I don’t but I care, I will listen and if I can’t answer a question, then I will find someone who will. I truly believe that everyone already has all the answers inside, they just need help getting to them and that’s what people like me are for.
• I have my own story like most of the people in the field do. I know what it is like to feel helpless and hopeless; to feel like nothing that you do matters and I don’t want anyone else to feel that way. I became a therapist because this is my calling. I love what I do, and I can’t imagine doing anything else. To watch someone realize that their life can be different is one of the most amazing things to witness.

Fun Facts:

• The amount of useless trivia I know is hilarious. I’m a huge Disney fan so my knowledge of that is expansive…my knowledge of being a normal human is probably limited by that but if there was ever a Disney trivia night, my team is definitely going to win!
• I organized a water balloon fight at a treatment center that I worked at one year and it was awesome to be silly and just have fun with the clients.
• If you ever end up stopped in traffic beside me, just know that there’s a full car concert happening next to you and I’m probably singing along to The Backstreet Boys or Fall Out Boy and if you’re super lucky, my windows are up because I can’t sing to save my life and your ears are safe!
• I’m pretty friendly just naturally very quiet. I like to laugh and be silly but I’m also fairly serious. I like documentaries, the Boston Red Sox and my favorite books are The Lord of The Rings and The Giver.
